Why?

One day I want to be a nurse

I will need a lot of science

And english courses

So when will I ever need to know

How to find an area of a triangle

Or how to write a structured, 5 paragraph, persuasive essay

Which is not how you will ever write a college essay

I don’t understand why we have to learn this

Or have it drilled into our heads that we will use this in college

If we will not use it ever again

One day I will have to manage a household

But school has not taught me

How to apply for loans

Or how to take care of a family

Or how to hold down a job

Or how to balance a checkbook

When I walk down the halls for the last time

I will know very little about real life

But I will know how to find the width of a sidewalk that surrounds a pool
