Why
I still don’t understand the meaning
Of the words that spill out of your mouth
The words of response
To why you bother staying,
Why you bother trying,
When I’m too broken to fix.
Because
Because I love you is not a valid reason
To pick up my pieces,
To hug me so tight
I’ll feel whole within seconds,
To dry my tears
and kiss my forehead,
To slip your hand into mine
and trace hearts along my scars
To stay with me for as long as you can.
To keep meeting me halfway.
Or maybe it is.
Maybe
Because I love you
is a valid reason for you to stay
For you to try.
Maybe
Someday those words won’t be enough.
But today,
You are here
And I am here
You stay by my side,
I stay by yours,
We both try,
Because those words are enough
Because you love me,
Because I love you.
