Why
A poem expresses
All I keep inside,
Be it the good, or the bad.
Why else would these words flow so easily?
Keeping secrets,
Wearing masks,
All the while my heart cries inside.
Faking smiles
Until they feel real.
I forgot for a time
All my troubles.
Surrounded but alone,
Shouting but silent.
This is an outlet
For all the things I never speak aloud.
This is a chorus of praise
For all I go unacknowledged by.
This is a reminder
For all the hurt that I will be remembered
For all the feelings unspoken
For all the memories that I don't want to forget.
This is me.
All the words I can't articulate right,
All that is unsaid in gestures not heard,
All the silence I carry for others,
Everything can be told.
Social awkwardness for a teen
Born in the wrong decade,
This is the escape.
The written word expresses for me
What I'll never say.
I can be dark, morbid, pissed off,
Upset, sad, alone,
Joyous, happy, content.
I can be myself in a way that can't be misinterupted, misread.
So why do I write?
Easy, because why hide in the dark
Everything from yourself.
