Why?

Dear Paul,

You were only an acquaintance

But you made such a difference

Such a sweet smile that needed no maintenance

I thought you were full of that sweet freshman innocence

But I was wrong

You were like a little brother

With an amazing voice that could sing any song

Like you, there will never be another

I saw you that day, spoke and joked with you

I didn’t know how you felt, why didn’t you give me any signs?

I would have stopped you, I would have never let you go through

Why did you draw the line?

I wish you gave us a warning

I would have saved you from yourself

But now I’m stuck here mourning

And for a moment, I lost myself

I was one of the last to find out what you did

But one of the first few to find out the nightmare had come true

My mother told me but I didn’t want to cry, so I hid

Pain doesn’t feel like it should; it’s much worse than just blue

And now we need to continue

But it’s so hard to do

I’m finally forgiving you

But I hope you forgive yourself too

I miss you.

Gaby
