Why?

Why is the sky blue Why do people cry Why is love so infinite Why does the sky turn dark gray just before a heavy rain Why is there so much pain Why you-why'd you have to die As I watched you lie motionless in that casket I told myself it was a life sized doll Someone had to be playing a joke that wasn't at all funny I tried to convince myself that it was all a dream-a really bad dream that I would wake up from any moment and you'd be alive I only needed someone to pinch me, kick me, pour water on me, anything; just wake me up-that didn't work Then I thought just close your eyes and count to ten-when I opened my eyes again the casket would be gone-you'd still be here I hate to cry but as I write my eyes are blurring-I fight to keep them from falling I've always heard things happen for a reason-but what was the reason behind you leaving I know wanting you to stay is selfish, that's not fair but I truly don't care; I try not to mourn or grieve but I can't seem to stop Since you had to go I wanted to say goodbye As I watched them lower you into that hole in the ground, tears started to role down my cheeks I swear I could hear your voice saying I love you I shut my eyes-I could see you smiling-that smile always got me through-that smile made the darkest hours bright At that moment for me time stood still I swore I heard you whisper it'll be alright my child, just you wait and see-by God's grace it will When I look out at the night sky I begin to cry-knowing that you're up there smiling, watching over me Though you're dead your spirit will never die it lives within me just as you did You may be gone but never ever forgotten I didn't get to say it when you were alive so I'm going to say it now-goodbye for now THinking about it goodbye means that we won't be together again but I know we will So see you soon, you were and will always be a great inspiration in and on my life
