Why do I write?
When I was a child
My Grandpa read to me awhile
I did not know Mother Goose,
Nor did I know Doctor Seuss.
But I did know Evangeline and Anabel Lee.
Always, they were friends to me.
I did not understand when teachers would croon
To Good Night Moon, before naptime at noon.
However, I found comfort in The Bells.
Especially, when grandpa read it in swells.
It is my Grandpa’s memory I preserve with all I write.
That is why I write with all my might.
