Why Do You Fear, Darling?

"I'm here to stay" you whisper as you pull my head close to your chest. Our fingers entwine, feet locked together. I feel your heartbeat and the warmth of your tight embrace. I nestle closer to you, clinging to this moment as long as I may. A roaring cascade of euphoria Fills my heart as you squeeze me tighter. You can feel my worries. And you ask, "Why do you fear, darling?" I lay there a moment longer, pondering your question. Why do I fear? All is well and I am loved. Thoughts of disappointment in me or dreading loss of you attempts to rule my joy. I have been passed over, heartbroken and shattered from pitiful wastrels. Come today where I need not worry about tomorrow is an unfamiliar feeling to me. Your benevolence, words of endearment, acts of compassion and your vehemence for life.. it's captivating. You feel like home. Surely I say, my dear, I will strive to show the same warmth and love and affection you have so trustingly given to me for the rest of my days.
