Why her
I was only a child, just in middle school
When I thought being under the influence was cool
All the people that I thought were my friends
Just turned out to be mere detriments in the end
Start drinking, you'll be the best, they said
Never said though, the negatives like ending up dead
Before I new it, alcohol was what I was addicted to
A really stupid mistake, and this couldn't be any more true
How could I let this happen, is what I always ask myself
Whenever I glance a that whiskey, wine, and beer bottles on my shelf
A tear always rolls down my cheek
Believe it or not, this for me is a normal day of the week
My little sister started to find out about me
When she noticed that my life changed to anything but glee
She then started to worry about me all the time
I felt guilty, for committing this terrible crime
A year later, I couldn't help but stay the same
except for the fact that I felt more shame
My baby sister got diagnosed with a fatal sickness
Something that kills you but not in a matter of quickness
I told myself "not her, not her", why couldn't it be me
But unfortunately, cancer is blind to personality
This diesease for sure has some nerve
for giving my sister something she doesn't deserve
Later, as her time gradually drew near
I kept telling "don't worry little sis', big bro is here"
"I don't think I'll make it through this" she said
While she was slowly but surely passing away on her hospital bed
She told me "Just promise me one thing, big bro"
Anything, anything, whatever it is, I won't say no
"My wish is that whenever you see another drink"
"to ignore it, say goodbye to it, without so much as a blink"
Those were her last words before she died
And every time I thought about her I cried
My morality and society's courtesy were not of congruence
But this is my story of a need to stay above the influence
