Why Is That How It Is?

All men are equal,
Easier said than done.
Always thinking you’re just the same as everyone else,
Then being told you’re different.

Different bathrooms,
Different buses,
Different drinking fountains,
Why does the color of my skin affect me?

Learning about Constitutional rights,
Denied Constitutional rights,
What rights?
Where are my rights?

And when I ask why,
I get the same answer,
That’s just how it is.
Why is that how it is?

Stand up,
Stand up for freedom,
Stand up for what is right,
Stand up for what you believe in.

I believe in equality,
Equality for all men,
Not just men,
Men and women.

No matter what color,
No matter what race,
No matter what religion,
No matter what shape or size.

Equality
For
All,
The belief that will keep a nation strong.
