Why I always speak my mind

People dying left and right

For speaking their minds

Tortured or beaten

Young and Old

For just speaking their minds

Kids murdered in the streets

Crying out for peace

While being beat

By an Officer

Begging for life

For speaking their minds

At age fifteen

Males picked up

And sent to fight a war

That wasn't their own.

Hunted, silenced, starved

Tortured, murdered, gone

For standing with the Church

and speaking their minds

Choices to be made:

Escape or into hiding

Escape to America

For freedom and their lives

And to speak their minds

This was their reality

My parents left as children

To survive and thrive

Giving their future children

A new reality

One filled with hope and opportunity

This is what inspires me

To work hard and

Take advantage of my opportunities

And to always speak my mind
