Why I Am

Sitting alone with so much to say,

But no one to listen,

Or at least that's how I feel.

I take out my trusty pencil,

Grab a clean piece of paper,

And feel the freedom to express my thoughts.

No one to judge,

Just me and my thoughts,

An overwhelming amount of relief washes over me.

Why have I not done this sooner?

For fear of being rejected by no one but myself.

These things I write are mine alone,

To share or not,

It's up to me.

It's times like these where I can sit and think,

Where I can be anything I want.

That's why I am a poet,

To simply be free.
