Why I love training
All started out,
So young you see,
Gymnastics, Athletic's,
Happily.
Life changed,
It became rough,
Lost a parent,
Head in a thick trough.
Years of solidarity,
Head all foggy,
No support,
Very lonely.
Skinny Maginney,
The nickname for me,
Curly haired cabbage patch,
Became known to be.
Sadness and anger,
Frustration and tears,
Deep well of desire,
Formed during those emerging years.
Had enough,
Being ridiculed daily,
Had enough,
I'm going to stand up for myself actually.
Boxing became my saviour,
Training hard,
Training tough,
Loved it, very rough.
Puberty came a calling,
My muscles starting roaring,
My fights were hard core,
Weren't giving in no more.
Left home oh so early,
Living alone,
Fighting,
A normality.
Tiredness and trauma,
Trapped inside of me,
Desire and determination,
Also wanted to be free.
Conflicts of interests,
Created internal controversy,
Conflicts of interests,
Just made things worse for me.
Fighting non stop,
In the ring and down town,
Fighting non stop,
In my head, feeling sucked down.
Didn't give in,
Fighting again,
Wanting to rest,
No way, stick that jab in.
Pleased to get,
In the Army,
Pleased to join,
Army boxing team.
Training so much,
More than daily,
Training so much,
It began to drain me.
The hunger for success,
Almost broke me,
The hunger for success,
Brought me to my knees.
The desire was there,
Deep inside of me,
The motivation to fight,
Evaporating.
Conflict in my head,
And loss in my heart,
Not knowing who I am,
New identity, need to start.
Need to reset,
Travel afar,
Drunk and partying,
Meet girls at the bar.
Didn't stop there,
Drugs and wildness too,
Many a hooker coming,
Too many to count for you.
Neglected a large part of me,
Neglected the part that set me free,
Took a while to see sense,
Took a while to make amends,
Jiu Jitsu and Sambo,
New part of me,
Still love a scrap,
Keeps me happy.
Weights and cardio,
Eating clean too,
Got more focus now,
My girl friend helped set anew.
Training is a love,
All my life you see,
Training is my passion,
Gratefully.
