That Is Why I Love You
He hurt me.
He threw me to the floor
My hair cut and ripped out of my skull
My limbs ripped off one at a time
Like the doll one played
Extreme Barbie with as a child.
I was beaten and battered and discarded
And abused to the point
Where my eyes saw the color red
All too often, and the bottle of
Sleeping pills was all too familiar.
Then you came along.
You stitched me back together,
One piece at a time, until
I was made whole again.
You make me feel alive,
More alive than I have felt in years.
You make me feel safe and warm inside. You make me feel like he can’t touch me again. You helped me find peace
And you helped me turn away from his
Sticks, stones, and words that broke me.
And I became me again.
The me that loves to laugh and dance.
The me that loves animals and music.
The me who loves to talk and sing.
The me who had always tried to stay strong,
And the me who will never forget you.
You with gorgeous hair and eyes.
You with kind and healing words.
You who loves everyone and everything.
You who touches every heart, and the you who has healed me down to my soul.
I lost my scars, and I will never again be a doll.
I no longer look to kitchen utensils and
Little white bottles to save me from the pain.
I turn to you. You are always there for me,
Always standing by my side to support me.
And that is why I love you.
