Why I Write

Everyone has a talent they cultivate with care Except for those who can’t find their seed anywhere There are those who don’t believe they are unique That was me, I too once felt talentless and weak Chosen are those who have natural gifts of light Or others who find their place, where they fit just right Then there are those who refuse their perfect gifts Or only see want they want to be They are not free Everyone around me can dance and sing I wish I could be amazing, and be everything I’ve ever hoped or wished to be I too, was not free I tried to be something that was not in sight I tried to wear clothes that did not fit me right I tried to stand out, I tried to blend in I tried to stop, I tried to begin It seemed that there was nothing I could do In my despair, I sunk below all view Why couldn’t I be brave and try? For me, I’d lost all hope of finding why Then, one very still day I paused and saw the sun A thought came to mind And then and there, I felt like I was someone I began to describe the beauty of sunsets The opalescent beauty of dawn The star-like quality of the violets I began to transform into a swan Maybe I can’t sing or dance But nature has given me the chance To write the song of my heart A gift that won’t ever shatter Or fall apart Each thought hangs by a spider-silk thread I’ve never regretted what I said In the poems that I write That’s all I have to say for now Goodnight
