Why I Write
Why do I write? Many don't know
Why I might waste my time
Scribbling out lyrics to songs I make
Most of them don't even rhyme
I may not be the best at what I do
But I don't really care
I have a dream, and I stick to it
To put myself out there
You may think it's for money
Or good fortune, or fame
But all I ask is that no one forgets
The most important thing: my name
As I walk through halls of my school
And shuffle past all the kids
I stop to think, "If I were to leave
Would they remember the things I did?"
Would they remember my jokes that made them laugh?
Would they remember the times we smiled?
Would they remember the things I did for them?
When we're separated by miles and miles?
The greatest pain is leaving the ones
We've cherished so long behind
So I hope the ones who are leaving
Will remember me until they die
The friends I've made have rescued me
Out of a hole I dug
Through everything I did to them
They cherished me with love
But now the time has come for them
To start a brand new path
Some will take music, some will take art
And some will go into math
And now our time is running out
And there will come that day
Where I will have to them
Everything I need to say
But there's so much to say and so little time
That I can't say it all at once
So I take to the pen, my heart does the writing
And now we begin our fun
I list all the things we've done together
That have truly changed my life
And I list the pains of having to say
All our final goodbyes
But I also tell them about my dreams
And all the things that I need
I refuse to ever let them forget me
Even when they're 93
So that is the answer to the question you asked
Why do you need to write?
Because I need the ones I desperately love
To remember me until they die
