Why I Write
Poetry is powerful
Why else would we
Write it, remember it?
Homer had stories he needed to say
So he put them in poems, protected.
Saxons had sagas of heroes and monsters,
Shakespeare wrote verse to carry his plays.
Victorians, love notes and nostalgic sonnets
And now we match it to music and sing.
Why do I write?
I need people to know my stories.
