Why I Write
When did I first versify?
When I was but fifteen,
I yearned to truly certify
That my sense in my lifespan green
Was like in worth to mentors' keen.
You ask why I choose to write?
You surely may know this:
I wept within to bear the spite
That speaking of my inner bliss
Was wont to draw from tongues that hiss.
What has inspiration wrought?
What outcomes I behold!
I find through poesy I have taught
That ever-present, stifling hold
Is numb to tarnish written gold.
