Why I Write

She sat in the back of her English class. "Paper due tomorrow, beginning of class!" Sighs of 5th graders fill the room. She makes her way home. Each step haunting her; knowing the final destination. Thoughts sprinted through her mind. "I need the good grade." "What can I write about?" The blank page stares her down. So many lines... So much space... Her eyes study every corner of the room-a habit she picked up in years past. Her glare stops at a ripped envelope. PFT stares back. A woman solider she had been writing- there was her answer! Slowly and unsurely she begins; "Soldiers stand up and fight so we can lay our heads down at night." Words start to come faster than she can write. Confidence is flowing. Suddenly she understands. Poetry is not about the grade. Not about your thoughts or beliefs Not about having the 'perfect form'. Instead the effect you have on your targeted audience. Make people smile laugh cry mourn think love hate. You have the chance to make people feel by writing. And that's why she writes. I am her- And that is why I write.
