Why I Write

I write not only to express myself but to express others. To wrap around their hearts and thoughts but not smother. I write because of pain. That one summer without rain. While I was sitting on my bed thoughts were going through my head. Uncle opened the door with a hat. He passed it to them, they passed it back. A hat piled high with papers of my fate. "Number 45", he yelled. Step up to the plate. The door was closed and the party began. A party for them I thought would never end. I write because of pain. That one summer without rain. The two months of partying drove me insane. I write because of the John Coffee's that never had a voice because it was two crippled to understand the formation of the word freedom. I write for the Nettie's out there. The "YOU sho' is uglies" that succumbed to the ugliness that bares inside there soul with no feet. I write for the "Precious". The ones whose beaten down by their weight of failure that society says "You need to be pitiful to get any help from us". I write for the "Madea's" out there. You know, the ones that quick to think and act but hate for them to be read. I write for the "Gabby Douglas's" out there. The ones who was criticized by there natural roots that began their journey for new growth. I write for the "Mimi's". The ones who can't cut the tanted vein that runs through their heart for a beat of bullspit. I write for the ones who have always been considered the two's cause they didn't cheat or obeyed to the ones that couold reminisce about how "Jesus was on the main line, so I told Him how much I want". I write not for the money considered in this contest, but the dream it can open up to get people to wake up. I write for the "Queen Latifah's". The ones who is quick to "Set It Off" but give in to the thought of a woman's touch. I write for the Scholars. The ones that parents told them you can't be nothing but proved to them that they are a better them. I write for the "Joys". The happiness that radiates off their eyes because they see greatness. I write because it's not a "Who, What, When, Where, and Why". It is an I. I write because there is somebody else writing for me. Somebody's joy and laughter or pain and somber fingertips are punching every piece of heart they have in them on a keyboard that feels abused. The keyboard that is not a QWERTY or ASDFJKL but ctrl, alt, delete. I write for the You's. The ones that will read this and say "This is good but the punctuation and grammar is a little off". The ones that look at this poem and see the punctuation but not the aspiration. You immediately saw the incorrect but not the correct. You was too busy reading it but not examining it. You didn't see yourself because you are the "Helen Keller". You can't see yourself in these words and you can't hear the passion in these words but your heart still beats. I write for the "Me's". The same ones typing this beat. The same ones expressing themselves like a true "Me". I write not because of tthe "Why's". But Because of the "I's".
