Why I Write

Love and loneliness

Pain and poverty

Hurt and happiness

Joy and jealousy

Are not defined in the dictionary

But buried in the heart

Echoes of whispers

Smothered underground

Silently suffocating

But when a poet’s pen

Lends them voice

It sets them free

So thundering grief

Dancing hope

And shy delight

Replace sanitized silence

As a wounded heart

Flutters to life
