Why I Write
It was the 9th grade
Some called it puppy love
But attention I did not pay
For I thought that I was above
All of the others
Smarter than most
Though hiding under the covers
When I thought I saw a ghost
Like many other relationships
This one did end
I found myself in bed eating potato chips
Over and over again
I could not escape that feeling
Of deception, depression; my heart set ablaze
Nothing I did brought healing
But everything I did brought pain
It seemed to be endless;
My body was drown
In a river of sadness
Nowhere to be found
It seemed that for my heart
There was no mend
Then I discovered the art
Of paper and pen
My feelings bled out of the pen
The paper was the gauze
That’s how my actions came to mend
My broken heart filled with the hurt that was
Writing gives me power
Writing gets me praise
Writing every hour
Makes my heart want to celebrate
So that’s why I write
Written out in length
My poetry gives me light
And my pen gives me strength
