Why I Write....

I write because the words in my mind

Are better than the ones I'm brave enough to say

Because poetry is like sweetened condensed milk

All the unnecessary parts taken out

Until only sweetness remains

Because everything I do and see pauses mid-dance

To line up and march across the page

I write because in this way

A fleeting emotion can be caught

And saved for further examination

Because the perfect combination of words

Is a recipe for self-expression

And because each blank page

Is a novel opportunity
