Why I Write
Could you ever imagine
even for a minute
the world with no words?
Not even an inkling of communication,
jumbled thoughts and misread interpretations
of what others are trying to express.
Community, power, expressiveness,
all lost.
Now,
imagine yourself as the only one in the world
who is able to speak, write, express.
Your very own thoughts and ideas,
passions and missions,
are set in a spotlight for the universe to see.
What could you do?
What would you do?
WIth every last breath I would shout.
With every last drop of ink or swipe of lead I would create
letters, sentences, poems, essays.
I am in control, and I can be heard.
Here is the thing though,
we are lucky.
Our whole world is unique.
Do you know why?
Because we all have the power to express.
That is incredible.
Some have beautiful imagination, others, exquisite humor.
We all have the power to imagine, to create, to explain.
Words have the power to change lives.
Tiny little drops of ink formed together to make a letter,
paired with more letters, spaces, blossoming into a sentence.
Sentences mature into a speech,
and that speech could have the power to evoke change in what we live.
Change in what we feel,
change in what we know,
change in how others may understand.
Why do I write?
Could you even imagine
even for a minute
the world with no words?
The silence would be deafening.
That is why I write.
