Why I Write
My pencil marks invade the paper
The worried soul leaks out
Once a silent thought
Now forever a powerful mark
As each of my stories
Take up the lined page
My worries are released
My problems rearranged
So when you ask why I write,
I ask "why wouldn't I?"
I share the story of my first kiss
With the shy teenage girl
I speak of returning hope
To the depressed boy
And as I give away my words
My meaning is highlighted
Every word tracing my existence
Leaving me in the minds of others
I write not for fame
Nor just to release emotion
I write so those who believe to be alone
Realize it's quite the opposite
Life is a troublesome road
No two take the same route
But I write so people all around
From 10 to 98, Russia to the United States,
Can identify with someone
Because no one should ever feel alone
I write because there's been times
When my notebook was my only companion
And to fill hearts with belonging through writing
Is my one and only calling
Something wrong with this poem?
