Why I Write

Without poetry I am a screaming statistic and nobody knows what I am saying. For days still ongoing today, More than I can ever count, My emotions have been stifled and Silenced, Compacted into ammunition for my only rifle I call my pen Compacted into incognito Me, not even concerned about all the places they could go Because I don't know where they originated from in the first place But I found them on my paper. Lines and metaphors seem to be the Only way to interpret what I am feeling, and with out them I feel like my head is reeling Because I can't handle these statistics. Days like these I hate math because I can't seem to Find the formula to make love work Or discover why my blood Choose water and threw us in the dirt, his family I guess my father hated math too because he didn't understand two halves were supposed to make a whole Ultimately making my goal to be Strong for his third, I call my everything Because she is. But in doing so I assumed the role of a wiz Making all my feelings and Sorrow disappear Like they were never here But I acknowledge them in words. I acknowledge them on stage In front of people I don't know But I trust to interpret my flow And show That I am screaming inside. I walk through life like I'm light But I am really on my hands and feet praying the stories I tell weren't mine. But I am really dragging my strength Every step I take Yet I am lifted in my poetry. I write because it seems to be the only way For me to recognize the pain I even try to hide from myself. I write because that is where I find myself and reveal how I am truly feeling. I write because this the only place where I can put my gates down and scream Because I am a screaming statistic and nobody knows what I am saying.
