Why I Write
When they read my poetry,
No one knows a single thing about me,
I am free to be whoever,
Or whatever, I intend to be.
No one is aware,
About the scarf I use to cover my hair,
Or perhaps of all the stares,
From strangers I seem to receive.
When they read my poetry,
They don't know of my faith,
The Muslim religion, that everyone seems to hate.
They can only see the words on the paper,
And judge the meaning there,
That's why I write,
Because no one really cares.
Not of my background, or who I am currently.
That's what I loved, when my father introduced it to me.
I write so that if they can only judge my appearance,
I can somehow clarify,
The words on that paper,
Show, that I am more then meets the eye.
