Why I Write

When you are caught

Underneath the bell jar,

            Or feel the pain

            Behind every scar,

The escape is cleverly hidden

Within the creation of your own words.

When you are up late

Because your mind won’t rest,

            Or feel the pain

            Deep within your chest,

The escape is in pen and pencil

                        To keep you moving onwards.

When no one will listen,

And your voice is ignored,

            There is a solution,

            One rarely explored.

                        Put words to your feelings.

                        Make yourself be heard.

To write is to express,

To express is to have a voice.

            This solution is simple,

It should be your first choice.

                        Pour your soul into writing.

All fine lines will become blurred.

Every eye is on me, my throat closes up, I can't utter a word. The only sound that escapes my mouth is a measly squeak that doesn't help my lack of confidence, therefore causing a rosy color to rise to my cheeks. They're expecting me to tell them something about myself. They want me to say something about writing, about my personality, about my life. The eyes begin to bore even more closely into me, every person practically leaning in to catch my first words. I open my mouth, but again, my vocal chords refuse to work. That's not what I'm here for. I'm here to become a better writer. Isn't that what I'm supposed to be here for?
