Why I Write
Why do we write?
Because we are bound.
Bound by the taskmasters of paper and ink.
They mold us, reform us and make us shine.
Bound to raw thoughts and emotions,
Shining light on the darkest recess of our minds.
Bound tightly by the words that leave us reeling.
These words pound and ground us.
Will not be appeased.
Bound in a cage, and not let out
Until our imaginations are left to dust and age.
We are chained.
Chained in ignorance by those who oppress us.
Our minds are not free to wander.
Chained in fear by those who have wronged us.
Our hearts cower for acceptance.
And chained by the expectations of those who encourage us.
Our souls scream for release,
As they crush and twist us.
We are beaten and bruised and mocked.
Why do we write, you ask?
This will be your answer!
We are bound by imagination.
Chained by those around us.
We are not quitters.
We are survivors!
