Why I Write
I have loved books since I was small
a favorite dream: to write my own
sad or happy, through it all
between the pages was my home
I write and read for reasons alike
a love of words flows in my veins
thus, for the reason that I write
I have dear Mom and Dad to blame
those bike rides to the library
I will remember evermore
engulfed in prose and poetry
travels to imagined shores.
words are a wondrous gift to man
a joy we all can understand.
