Why I'm Here
In our last conversation,
We got into some existential topics.
You asked me why I watch so many movies,
How I have time for everything else.
You asked me why I work so much,
If it’s something that brings me joy.
You asked me what my purpose was,
If I had found it yet.
Well, here is my answer, Dear Friend: this is Why I’m Here.
Because Greta Bisso found Mark McDowell
And they found refuge in each other’s friendship.
Friend-dates became romantic ones,
Six weeks later--a honeymoon.
They had their first child together; they called him Zachary William,
And finally, after years of anticipation, the mother got a daughter.
And now, the music blasts from behind the glass of my car;
My throat becoming sore from belting the lines alongside Panic! and Miss Musgraves.
And there’s something to be said regarding the merits of quoting movies--
I never feel like running, but that won’t stop me from mimicking Mr. Gump.
And then there are the little things that make me smile throughout the day:
The hug that I get from my mom when I get home from school
Or my friends making fun of me for quoting favorite flicks.
And, of course, I simply wouldn’t be me without Ellington Hall;
There hasn’t been a moment since I started working
That my mind hasn’t been at least partially occupied by
Security orders, client meetings, or "Oh, crap. I have to call the caterer."
But in the end, it doesn’t matter.
I may forget to call a vendor a hundred times--
I just might remember on the one-hundred-and-first.
I may proclaim that “Me and Jenny was like peas and car-rots” a hundred times--
My friends just might genuinely laugh at the one-hundred-and-first.
I will sing at the top of my lungs to music on full blast even though my mother claims that I am ruining my ears.
Because it makes me happy.
Because it’s Why I’m Here.
