Why Me
Why me
The sun was peeking through the clouds
It was a nice November day
All she had to worry about was
An unexpected visit
As the sun turned to stars
Something just felt off
They sat around each other
And someone stifled a cough
And then the bubbly mood
Turned dark and serious
And the look in their eyes
Made us all feel curious
(they said)
There has been an accident
Her mother was involved
Alcohol was on her lips
The problem wasn’t solved
She had hit her head
And now couldn’t wake up
The mood had just then changed
As all of it added up
Would you like to see her
Is what the parents asked
Of course, we said yes
But all of our feelings were masked
Now they’re in the car
And crystal’s dozing off
The others started crying
They were just too soft
Then they all arrived
And saw their mothers bed
Her stoney eyes suddenly filled
Her mother looked almost dead
They all gathered around
Looking at the cuts and bruises
And partially shaved head
The little ones were asking
When she would wake up
How could we explain
That her time might be up
This story has no end
That’s how it has to be
And poor little girl was left wondering
Why me
