Why Poems?

What do words mean to you? Do you listen to them in your head? Does it really mean that the sky is blue? Or does it mean sad thoughts are in your head? Poetry isn't just rhyming words Or saying your feelings It's going outside to watch the birds, And writing down real things. You could always make things up as you go It's something some people find hard But you should just go with the flow And I'm sure you'll catch people off guard To me poetry is like a code You don't just say what you feel When people read mine I want their minds to be overflowed And to me it means a great deal I started writing in 9th grade And at first, I thought it was dumb Soccer and tennis were sports I played So I didn't want blue inked thumbs I wasn't the only one to think it lame My friends laughed at it too But writing a poem wasn't my aim I just wrote that the sky was blue And now I'm writing to tell you why Why I write all these things I don't do it to tell you the sky is blue Or that a bird has wings I write so I can be heard So I can be heard far and wide Because going unheard is is absurd When others feel the same inside
