Why Poetry?

What is poetry to me?

Poetry is a way of expression,

Creativity of one's imagination.

It tells the stories of my depressions,

To all of my favorite impressions,

Of my life.

Poetry was started in my life,

By the time i was in the fifth grade.

At first it was a simple assignment.

But then turned into a passion of mine.

I became a published author that summer,

For the small poem that I wrote.

This inspired me to write more,

Only because someone was listening.

My childhood was rough,

And I never did like speaking of it.

Then i found poetry,

Which led to my few accomplishments.

I speak of my childhood in every poem,

But in this one I speak of inspiration.

That poetry can help one open up,

As it helped me become known.

For a young writer in two books,

The Gifted and by Creative Communications.

I still write poetry today,

And enter my poems into scholarships.

I feel like the world needs to see the side of a young author,

Who was hurt, torn down, and strengthened,

Though her poerty.
