Why Should I be Me?

Why should I be someone I hate?

Why should I have to be someone who is weak?

 Why should I be me?

Maybe I should be me so that I can change

So that I can become who I am meant to be

Someone strong and fierce

Someone with no tears

Is that who I want to be?

Why does a butterfly get to change from a caterpillar, by I have to stay me?

They say that everyone is unique,

Well I’d give anything to be the same

A carbon copy of someone else

No decisions to make

No feelings to feel

No one to be, especially not me.

But this is the thing I hate.

This feeling of disgust that comes with mirrors and pictures.

Why should I hate myself and who I am?

Because you say so?

Why should I listen to you, that ugly voice from the dark?

Why should I try to be you, with your words that frown?

And your lessons that don’t teach

Anything but pain

So I am going to be me

For the simple reason that I am not you

I am not someone that lives in pain

I am going to change

Change how I see the world

From your view to mine

Because I have faith

Because I have joy

Because I can feel the sun on a rainy day

That is why I should be me

I just hope that I can be
