Why Smile?

Every night i choke Over the words i wish i whispered On the twisting in my chest And every morning i ache For the story carved into my heard From the pounding in my head But every day i smile And then stare into the mirror and say, "Philip, why in the world are you smiling?" And Philip laughs and says, "Because everything's bound to get better Because i can make this world a little brighter" "But Philip, every day i hurt Everyday i'm struck down And everyday i miss her I miss her and I've come to hate her frown So why am i still trying? Philip, why do i insist on dying? What about me could change a world? When i cant even protect this girl..." And Philip peered back for a moment And he said' "Have you forgotten who you are? Have you forgotten that a single candle A candle of love engulfed by flames Its a like a beacon to the world If you can draw in one person You've lived a life worth living" And with tears welling in his eyes he cried, "Don't forget who you are Don't forget what you stand for Because you're going to be persecuted You'll be submerged in a sea of shattered glass another day You're going to swallow tears again But no matter what they say I want you to forgive And i want you to let go And i want you to love them And be something more"
