The Why of a Teacher

Why would someone teach? Certainly not for the money Does anyone enjoy grading papers? Or dealing with attitude problems and disinterest? I would submit not. Why would someone teach? Do they like waking up early? Or having to get to school before the students who need help with what should be simple homework? No, that isn't it either. So we have a conundrum. We have all these people who get up everyday Make the trip to school Teach teenagers who generally don't listen Spend hours upon hours grading papers And then make the trip back home And why? Because of the few. The few students in each teacher's classes who actually listen The ones who absorb the knowledge, the love of learning and go on after school to change the world And if even one student returns Even one To say thank you and tell how that teacher changed their life Everything will be worth it
