Why We Cheat
You ask why we cheat.
Why we lie,
Why we sleep.
Well let me tell you the answers that you
So desperately seek.
We cheat because you make us,
We lie because we want a future,
We sleep because we stay up all night and worry.
Our society is that of grade-seekers,
Of standardized test takers,
Of GPA trackers and class rank hangers.
We are pressured to do well,
Pressured to perform,
Pressured to obtain the “American Dream”.
This pressure drives us,
Leads us,
Compels us,
To do the despicable.
I must get an A,
I must be top of my class,
I must have a perfect GPA.
I must not fail.
When we can become a society,
Driven by actual learning and retaining,
Driven by student happiness and comfort,
Driven by innovation and consideration,
We will be true.
We will not cheat,
We will not lie,
We will not sleep.
Because we will be driven,
And motivated,
And compelled,
To learn,
To expand,
To retain,
And to grow.
This is the way of the future.
