Why We Write

In a world of violence, fear, and incorruptible mayhem

The spoken word is a sanctuary for those who feel condemned

In a realm where the darkness covers the entire place

We rhyme to express and we rhyme to provide grace

For our words offer us security and comfort

To those who are gifted, it requires little to no effort

But to others, it may take a long while

But in the end, we all have that cheerful smile

Knowing that we created a work of art

Just for the sake of expressing our heart

War and fear is not what we should read

For our words alone is what we truly need
