Why We Write

You ask an artist why he writes
But you see its all bout life
Be rapper, singer, author, poet
All we write is what we know
You can’t discourage us from telling our lives
Cause we gonna tell the truth instead of ya lies
People need know that what they’re hearing ain’t a show
So we verify for em just so they know
Don’t get mad at us for using our gifts
Cause we don’t put down but uplift
Even when your day is looking down
One good poem can bring it back round
Now you ask me why I write
And once again it’s all about life
I write about what I know
Exploiting my knowledge but not for show
I write about the joys of a childhood dream
I write about the heartbreak that comes with teens
I write about work and hard times of adulthood
I write about the lies they told in Robin Hood
I write about the time I ran round free
Not caring what everyone else thought of me
I write about the love triangle I found myself in
I write about time and how I began
I write about the ups and downs of life
I write about a savior who can handle you pain and strife
I write about religion and what it’s done for me
I write about life to put it simply
So now do you realize why we artist write
That we only write the plan simple life
The good and the bad, the ups and downs
But its poems like these that brings us back round
