Why Weak

Once upon a time there was a little girl

Every night

Her parents filled her head with stories

Of women and girls saved by men

Why?

During the day

Girls are told to be strong

At night they are damsels

Weak and scared

Why?

Why did Ariel give up her voice for a man?

Why did Little Red Riding Hood not use her eyes to see?

Why did Rapunzel trust voices she could never see?

Little girls should be taught to be heros

They shouldn’t be taught

To dry their tears with a new dress like Cinderella

To submit to the will of a man like Belle

That only men can fight for themselves like Mulan

Stories are great but

They are meant to be lessons

Let them teach girls

To be strong,

To reach out,

To fight,

To live.
