Wildflower

There’s a creature creeping inside all of us at this very moment.

A worry that has weaved into every fiber of our being.

The impeding question mark at the end of every thought that goes for a walk through the tunnels of our mind.

Two words,

With very little meaning on their own, but when put together, have the power to haunt your every waking moment, every sleeping moment.

What if?

What if the world stops turning, our hearts stop beating, or worse,

What if our hearts keep breaking?

My heart keeps breaking.

Breaking over the unknown, the uncertainty, the what if, and I’m afraid.

I’m afraid that I will fall.

I’m afraid that I have fallen, and no one will catch me,

Or someone will catch me, only to send me back on my way because they can.

Can only time protect me?

Or should I leap into the water, its Whats and its Ifs,

Pushing and pulling me under as density tries to keep me afloat.

I used to be a wallflower,

Who grew into a wildflower,

Only to have her petals picked by city dwellers.

They had never seen a wildflower,

And only did they realize how precious she could be when they tossed her aside,

Wilted, and four petals shy.

But one day, another city dweller came by and saw the beauty left in that wilted flower.

He took her home, gave her water and sunlight, and told her everything was going to be okay,

Just give it time.

And sure as hell, time came and went,

And the wilted flower was again a wildflower.

Honest, once broken, but reborn into a blossom much more than her own.

She was now an act of love.

What was wild became wholesome and pure.

And although sometimes she seemed unsure, deep down in her roots, what love he gave, she felt in return.

There will always be what if, but why can’t there also be, “WHY NOT?”

WHY NOT fall?

WHY NOT leap into the water and let the uncertainty consume you?

A wildflower can only be wild if she let herself free.

Just be.

And just love. 10-9-2017
