Will I Ever Get Through?
Dear Daddy,
It has never been easy between us
Arguements about small and big things
Nonsensical things
You've never agreed with me on the things I wanted
The things I needed you to agree with me on
I didn't turn out to be the daughter you wanted
I don't love who I'm supposed to
I don't like what you do
I don't take it lightly when you don't listen
You never listen
But I'm always supposed to
I'm supposed to be your quiet daughter who listens
I'm supposed to stand up for myself
But never against you
It was always an uphill battle
Neither of us had the strength to make it to the top
Your daughter dreamed of a life when she, and mama, and you could get along
Dreamed of when things would be easy
She kept dreaming even when things got light outside around her
But she was trapped in darkness
She kept dreaming when she could hear you and mama arguing
Just like the two of you had not too long ago
Your daughter still kept dreaming
Love, your daughter
Who is still dreaming
