Will You Be Remembered?
I wonder if Thomas Jefferson knew or even wondered
if he was going to be recognized, remembered.
That hundreds of years from when he took a stand,
we now sit in class taking tests of documents he voted for.
I wonder if the man who killed
the handfuls of children that Christmas season in Newtown,
even had the slightest curiosity a year previous from December 14th
that he would be giving families no one to open the presents already bought.
And forever in history he will be known as the devil.
For setting a record that could’ve been left untouched.
I wonder if the girl who got taken from this life too early,
with the joy of not one but two on the way-
ever dreamt of unintentionally cutting her own but also her babies lives short.
Years later ending up on some notecard,
for a student's research paper about murder.
Now i sit and wonder.
What i will leave this earth to remember me by.
Will i be studied in classrooms, or put in a research paper?
Or will i be stuck under the radar except in the family lines.
Which then the stories will fade to black at the clock keeps ticking.
We all have a story.
Until we take our last breath we continue writing.
Will yours be remembered forever?
Or maybe the more important question is-
Do you want to be remembered?
