The Window

Look out your window, Onto the streets. What do you see? A man walking his dog, A woman jogging around the block, Or a child riding their bike? Imagine looking out a window, From the 1960s. What would you see? A black man forced off the sidewalk, to let a white man walk by. A black child that has to walk twice as far, Just to go to school because, The closest school is an all white school. Why is that window so different from yours? What has changed since then? People changed. People like Rosa Parks, Who decided to say “No.” instead. People like Martin Luther King Jr., Who said what others were afraid to say. Ordinary people who decided to become leaders. What did they lead? The Civil Rights Movement.
