Wings

Part 4: First Love

God can make us lonely and lead us back to ourselves in numerous ways.
This is probably how he dealt with me on that very day.
I am alone as I enter the music shop,
knowing that when I break in I won't be stopped.
I enter, finding a way to play a soft tune.
But then I pause, wondering if I'm already doomed.
There's faint music in the distance as I get up to see where it's from.
I'm in the middle of the road, not knowing what's to come.
There's a light approaching from behind me, a car horn blazing by.
Hearing the sound of a car crash, I wonder how I'm alive.
I'm running now, afraid I'll have no place to go,
like a tub full of water starting to overflow.
I am back at the shop only this time that car is inside.
The place is on fire. That music I must find.
Would I have changed if I had chosen a different path?
If I had stopped and decided to look back?
I remember that time, that time I longed for you.
When I would look up and try to see you.
Looking was what brought me happiness,
knowing you had wings and wore a white dress.
I didn't know it back then, that you would watch me from above.
That you would end up being my first love.
