Winter

Silence.

Quiet yet louder than words.

I wish they'd argue in front of me.

But instead, the air hangs

They shuffle past each other.

Robots.

They ignore each other.

My once vibrant mother,

Now blends in with the peeling decor on the wall.

My once strong-willed father,

Now as dull as the kitchen knife in his hand.

Hacking away at dinner.

Cold meat.

The sound of my dog whimpering

Breaks the barrier and

I find an excuse to leave.

It couldn't always have been like this...

But I can't remember when it wasn't.
