Wisdom Patience and Abstinence Has Set Me Free
As a little girl
I played with ken dolls and barbies.
I was the teacher of my imaginary class
Counting their 1, 2, 3's
I loved hop scotch, and jump rope too,
Ring around the rosy and duck duck goose.
I remember in 2nd grade,
I had a crush named Joe.
He always liked girls with flowy dresses,
And pretty bows.
Everytime he looked at me,
I turned beat red.
And when he came to talk to me
I didn't hear a word he said.
Staring into his eyes
They were green the next day blue
Every morning putting an anonymous letter in his desk
"Good morning to you!"
As time went on
And we both grew older
My mind was in a different place
And my feelings much stronger
I saw changes within myself
and changes in him too
I remember he was 5 foot 4
Now he's 6 foot 2
We're now in high school
And I finally understand
It's time to take life more seriously
And fulfill God's plan.
When I walk along the halls
I see stomachs bigger than usual
I'm too busy writing college essays
These deadlines are crucial
Quiet yet outspoken
I'm young but not naive
Hearing "I Love You" from some little boy
I was taught never to believe
You see?
Our ladies need to understand
The boys of this generation don't give a damn.
They'll only grab you by the hand to adjust your pants
Pull them to the ground
Throw them to the side
Sneak underneath the covers
Only to penetrate your insides
But there's no getting to know you.
I never thought I'd witness my generation at this point
Sippin Ciroc and rolllin' joints
Getting pregnant and not ashamed
For some, the previous generation's to blame.
Back in the day there was no sex before marriage
But now we change to channel to watch "16 & Pregnant"
Our parents are too lineant
They don't stress it enough
Having an STD and being a teenage parent
make personal life more tough.
I saw Joe down the hall
I didn't know what to say
Anxious to confess my love for him
Yet another girl walking his way.
Rubbing her stomach coming from the bathroom
She kissed him and said, "You ready?"
I just stood there stunned
because I thought we were going steady.
A few weeks went by
And things were looking dim
Not only was she pregnant
She found out she contracted something from him.
She may have gotten pregnant
And contracted this disease
But her life is not over
In God she must believe
This has taught me
to not be pressured by my peers
to rush off into something
that may short chance my years.
listening to my mother
and those with my future at heart
it's proof to show
being abstinent is smart.
I choose to be abstinent
That is what God asked of me
With time and patience
He'll bless me.
