A Wise Man Once Taught Me These Things

Why does contentment man to me bring?

For a wise man once taught me these few things

To sing with the birds and not to just listen

To shine with the stars instead of just glisten

Lift praise to the Lord for all He has given

And value the ones for whom you were christened

And an eye for an eye may sometimes apply

But only if both eyes are thine

And tooth for tooth? Why stop there?

We have a full mouthful to spare.

But why do we sing? And why do we write?

Perhaps to show a select few the light

These are the things that I want you to be

A wise man once taught me these things

Said he.
