Wiser A Man
A cooking pan finds itself useless in my hands.
My skin tingles and nerves dance when the thought of making an appointment for myself crosses my mind.
My personal obligations lie untouched until they spark the lightbulb over my head.
My parents love me and I love them just the same.
They express love by being the training wheels on my bike.
I speed past the other kids that have no extra wheels to support them.
I watch them trip and wreck, but they always find a way around the rock on the path.
The further and further I go, the less faults I see from the kids around me.
They’re stronger, wiser, their tires are worn down but efficient.
Meanwhile my parents pant from behind as they try to push me further, spouting nothing but praise towards me.
I look behind me and think “how will I keep riding when they’re gone?”
“What happens when a rock appears on my path?”
Until then, I wonder.
If I had ridden without training wheels, how much wiser a man would I be today?
