Wish Burning
The world grows dark in light of moon
which really isn’t light at all
that causes mortal men to swoon
and ladies, finely garbed, to fall.
Into dark, unfettered doom
fall those whose glances stray too far
from the false-light-giving moon
to distant, lonely wishing stars
That, when wished upon, or so they say,
Give the dreamer not his desire
But bring about a dreadful day
Filled with spite and ringed with fire.
